2010 has been a comparatively quiet year for Freecom, but we’re not even halfway through January of 2011 and there’s another world first announcement to make: The is the world’s thinnest mobile hard drive. It’s designed for the Mac market, and manages to squeeze 320GB of storage into a drive only 10mm thick. The good news doesn’t stop there though, as Freecom decided to include a USB 3.0 connection allowing data transfer speeds of up to 130MB/s/. Such a thin drive needs protection which is catered for by the magnesium enclosure styled in white with a silver band to make it look right sitting next to any piece of the Mac hardware. Matthew’s Opinion Freecom ticks almost every box with this new drive. It’s super thin, it is fast due to USB 3.0, it doesn’t need a separate power cable, and the casing offers decent protection. So where does it fall short? By making it geared to Mac users only.

Why oh why would Freecom limit themselves to the Mac user when there’s bound to be thousands of PC users out there wanting a very thin, fast, lightweight drive in their laptop bag? It sounds like a missed opportunity and hopefully one Freecom will fix soon with the announcement of a PC range in colors other than white.

Been awhile, hasn't it? The same company responsible for serving up the world's first is now responsible for cranking out the world's slimmest portable HDD.
